Helping Riverside tenants back into work through training
This isn’t our first effort at getting people affected by Coronavirus and lockdown back into work. We recently worked with the Riverside social housing association to train their tenants and help them find employment after losing jobs during lockdown. The scheme was a roaring success and over half of the attendees have already found new jobs just a few weeks after completion!
Employment news
At the moment, unemployment stands at 5.1%, up 1.3% from the lows of two years ago. There’s good and bad news on the horizon though. On the upside, the reopening of the economy will bring a lot of new opportunities for job hunters and those looking to take their careers further. Many kinds of employer, from pubs, cafes and hotels to office service and supply companies will see their demand jump back up to the levels they were at before lockdown or even higher. This will mean their staff are safe and they may need to take on more employees.
Unfortunately, there is a downside. Although the government announced in today’s budget that it intends to extend the furlough scheme until at least September, there will come a point when it can no longer prop up employers in this way. This could mean a lot of layoffs. The government expects unemployment levels to jump up to around 7.5% as furlough ends.
If you are unemployed or worried that your job could be among those under threat, prepare to get on the right side of reopening by applying for one of our free back-to-work courses today.
